حوار / 対話

This series was produced in Beirut after having transitioned back into my hometown. I was observing my mind after having spoken the Japanese language for seven years: my voice was switching languages. As a result, I started exploring playful connections between the Arabic khatt and Japanese shodou. The former is based on a unit that is derived from the qalam (reed pen), whereas the latter attaches bristles to the reed pen in the form of a brush called fude.

In the Bruxelles series, I freed the letter from its root linguistic association and allowed it to appear, foremost, graphically. I got closer to the form of letters. By switching instruments (qalam and fude) for languages, I became more interested in the final cohesive interplay between the strokes of both written languages.
